Despite his looks, he is actually very young and energetic.
He lost his left hand to a bear who attacked him, ironically he had a metal hand fashioned to look like a bear's claws.
His right hand, however, is still in good condition.
He captains his own air ship, and even though he IS a pirate, he is more of a Robin Hood type of guy-stealing from the rich and greedy and giving it to the poor.
